Potent Podolski: Why German Could Be Like A New Signing For Arsenal

At every club there is a small selection of fan favourites amongst the superstars. It may be because of their on-field ability, maybe their work for the club off the field, or it could solely be because the said player has an enjoyable personality. Well, at Arsenal, there is a man who falls into all three categories and is firmly classed as a hero to many at the Emirates – Lukas Podolski.

The Germany international has been a credit to himself since arriving in north London but fell victim to an injury in the early stages of the season and went on to miss 15 league games this season.

Before he was sidelined, Podolski had scored two in two and recorded a shot accuracy of 100%, while also completing 90% of his passes.

He picked up where he left off yesterday as he returned to action in the Gunners’ 3-1 win over West Ham, scoring one and setting one up.

Despite only having the last half an hour on the pitch, the 28-year-old was instrumental in the three points which took the north London side back to the top of the league. First he played a killer pass to Walcott before the rapid winger struck beyond the Hammers keeper Adrian, and then he walloped his effort into the back of the net with 10 minutes remaining.

In total he completed 100% of his 18 passes, 100% of his tackles, 100% of his headed duels and 100% of his clearances. He also had four shots on goal.

Not bad for someone who had previously played just 80 minutes of football, ay? With January now just around the corner Wenger may be a little less worried about signing a big-money striker.
