With all the rumours flying about regarding Manchester United’s midfield right now, it comes as no surprise that Ross Barkley is apparently top of David Moyes’ transfer list this January. The young Everton midfielder has been brilliant this season and, as a Manchester United fan, I would welcome him to the club with open arms. And here’s why.
Barkley is still only 20 but is playing like a player with twice his experience. He would provide the strength that United need in the middle but also the pace, the movement and the creativity.
The England international can shoot from distance, thread a through-ball into the path of a striker or play things simply, and the beauty of his game is that he knows when to do each.
Barkley has played all but one game in the Premier League this season and has scored three goals. He has created a further 18 chances, won 48 of his take ons and completed 85% of his passes this term.
He is mobile, strong in the air and is comfortable with the ball at his feet, but he has also proved himself in a defensive aspect as well. The price is up for debate, and something I won’t discuss, but his services would greatly benefit the Red Devils, in my eyes.
