A couple of years back, if you had suggested that Michael Essien would be a target for West Ham then I would have laughed at you. Now though it looks as though there is a real of it coming off, as the Ghana international looks for first team football and the Hammers fight for their Premier League lives. In an exclusive report by Sports Direct News, it says that Sam Allardyce may look to swoop should Mohamed Diame leave Upton Park, but what could he offer.
The 31-year-old has always had a real quality about him. The way he can power through the middle of the park with the ball at his feet before shooting from range or slipping through a team-mate has seen him shine since he joined Chelsea back in 2005, and he has impressed even though he has made just seven appearances this season.
On paper, he seems like a good match for Allardyce’s men. He is a remarkably strong player who is willing to jostle to win possession and his influence when on the field is something that not many players can replicate.
He certainly has the ability to save West Ham from relegation should he sign, but whether or not it goes ahead hinges on many things.
