Everyone has an opinion in football, that’s one of the reasons why we love the game. But on the whole, the general football fan is in agreement about one thing, and that’s how dainty the Manchester United midfield currently looks. Again, spectators have their different choices to fill the central berth – Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal and Alex Song have all been bandied about in my local pub, but for me there is only one man to do the job – Marco Reus.
The Borussia Dortmund playmaker has astounded us since the start of last season and has the magic that United need in the middle of the park.
After 14 goals and nine assists in the Bundesliga last season Reus now has eight goals and five assists in his 17 appearances in this, while making 41 key passes on top of that.
He can play anywhere across the attacking roles in midfield and would add some much needed energy into the team, something that Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Marouane Fellaini seem to suck out of the side when they play.
He is most effective when cutting in from the wings and acting as a number 10 so to speak, carving defences open with his awareness and accuracy. He has had 38 shots this season with 68% of those on target.
Reus’ talent is unbelievable, and if you don’t believe me then watch this clip.
