The talk around the red half of north London this month has been about the striker’s berth at Arsenal and how Arsene Wenger may need to strengthen that before the window closes. With Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner currently injured it leaves just Olivier Giroud as the only real option up top for the Gunners, unless the boss opts to stick Lukas Podolski or Serge Gnabry up there.
There were whispers about who could be coming into the club and who could supply the goals on a regular basis – two completely different things I may add – and a lot of the discussions were concluded by the mention of one man – Mario Mandzukic.
Arsenal fans, you want to look away now. Those of you still looking may be left wincing, as it seems that the Croatia international is set for a new deal at Bayern Munich, despite the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
It’s a huge blow to Arsenal, and if you don’t believe me then let’s run through some of his stats.
Last season Madzukic scored 22 goals in his 40 appearances for the Bavarians, and this time round he has hit 13 in 25 – 10 of which were league goals.
In the Bundesliga this season he has created 16 chances for his colleagues and hit the target with 64% of his 32 shots at goal – a percentage higher than Bendtner’s, Walcott’s and even Giroud’s.
If those still don’t impress you, then here is a clip of the man in action.
