According to Arsenal’s Spanish playmaker Santi Cazorla, the Gunners are looking to bring in Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas. In my opinion, this will damage Szczesny.
FourFourTwo report that Cazorla is trying to convince the Madrid icon to leave the Bernabeu this summer after losing his number one spot to veteran shot-stopper Diego Lopez.
Casillas has not played a league fixture for Los Blancos this season, with all his 18 appearances coming in the Champions League and cup competitions.
With Lukas Fabianski looking likely to leave in the summer, Wenger will want to bring another goalkeeper in the summer but bringing in Casillas could go one of two ways.
Wenger can bring in a world class keeper and that may force Szczesny to raise his game or a player with the reputation and ability of Casillas could damage the 23 year-old’s confidence.
The Polish goalkeeper has had a quite impressive season at the Emirates, apart from a few big scores against him, he has the second highest number of cleansheets with 13.
But when you look at the big picture for Arsenal and where the club is at the moment, I would have to say that bringing in Casillas would be real step in the right direction.
Two of the main components this Arsenal team are missing are leaders on the pitch and the winning mentality. There’s no doubt in my mind that Casillas will bring both to North London.
