Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany told the Daily Mail that his side will take motivation from their title triumph in 2012. We can all remember the dramatic scenes from two years ago when the red half of Manchester threw away what many saw as an insurmountable lead of the table. City returned to winning ways yesterday with a 3-1 win at home to West Brom and Kompany is right to believe that City can still capture a second crown in three years.
Pressure does strange things to people. It would take a brave man to bet on Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea going to Anfield and getting a result. However, on many occasions the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has defied all odds, just like when Chelsea went to the Etihad earlier in the season and claimed an unlikely three points.
Liverpool are firmly in the driving seat and know that glory is on their fingertips. However City and Chelsea will push them all their way.
Should Chelsea win at Anfield on Sunday, the title race would yet take another swing as Manuel Pelligrini’s men would then have the advantage because of their superior goal difference.
The Premier League title is anything but a foregone conclusion. Kompany and the rest of his team still believe they can win it and will know that anything is possible. Expect more twists and turns in the coming weeks.
