We are heading into the season’s final furlong and the rumour mill is beginning to get revved up in preparation for a summer full of speculation.
Indeed, Talksport need no invitation to kick off a ridiculous rumour, and their Spanish football expert reports that Barcelona are interested in taking Mesut Ozil off of Arsenal’s hands when we reach the off-season.
This sounds familiar doesn’t it? An Arsenal midfielder being linked with a move to the Catalan club.
I can’t see this happening myself. Firstly, Ozil is just about to complete his first year at Arsenal and the club would be out of their minds to sell their record signing the summer after they bought him.
Secondly, Barcelona are apparently only willing to offer £30m for the German international’s services. Arsenal paid £42m for Ozil on deadline day last year.
Barcelona might as well not even bother making a bid if that is all they are going to offer £12m less than what Arsenal forked out for Ozil just the summer before.
If this rumour is true, doubtful, then it is a very cheeky move from Barca, but what do you expect from a club who are in the midst of all sorts of controversies regarding their transfer activity.
