Chelsea MUST Keep Hold Of Cole – Here’s Why
Chelsea are keen to open contract negotiations with Ashley Cole following his impressive return to first-team action, according to reports from The Telegraph.
The Blues have delivered two exemplary defensive performances in the past week and it is no coincidence that they have coincided with the return of Ashley Cole to the starting lineup.
Season after season the 32-year-old has been one of the finest and most consistent left-backs in the world and it is imperative that Chelsea ensure he remains on their books next season.
It can easily be argued that Chelsea have not missed Cole such has been the reliability of their backline and the brilliant form of Cesar Azpilicueta. However their title dreams have evaporated in recent weeks following shock defeats to Crystal Palace and Sunderland.
Cole has a wealth of experience in the big games which was highlighted in the two clean sheets achieved in Madrid and on Sunday at Anfield.
He has shackled some of the trickiest wingers in world football and I am struggling to remember a game where Cole has emerged second best against his opposite number. Many wingers have come and gone, but Cole has proved in the last seven days that he still has the ability to compete at the top level.
Many clubs will be interested in the services of Cole should he become available. Chelsea must act fast to ensure they tie the veteran ace down.
