Going after a top talent is never advised if you’re competing with a force that far exceeds yourself. Sometimes the underdogs come out on top, but, that’s only when the player has been sweet-talked by the manager. There are many players in Europe that people are chasing, some more than others, so if a club finds a player they want then they must do business quickly and efficiently.
Arsenal, however, are notorious for not getting their business dine quickly and the Luis Suarez saga proves just that. Even the Santi Cazorla deal was dragged out far longer than it should’ve done. But, the Daily Express are reporting that Arsenal are hot on the heels of Antoine Griezmann and have been boosted in the knowledge that the player has denied talks with Paris Saint Germain.
If Arsenal were to compete with PSG, they’d be considered the underdogs due to the financial power of the French giants. However, a manager that is very good at sweet-talking players into signing for him could snatch the 23-year-old from right under the noses of PSG.
The Frenchman has been an integral member of Real Sociedad’s team since he was promoted to the first team back when the Spanish club were playing their football in the Segunda Division. However, it has been this campaign that has seen his most successful run in the team. He’s scored 16 goals and assisted four more in the La Liga alone.
For a winger, that’s quite an achievement, but, his goals aren’t the only reasons as to why I want him at Arsenal.
Firstly, Griezmann is still quite young but has already got a wealth of experience under his belt. Including runs in the Champions League. A relatively experienced winger to accompany Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott behind the striker. He will be a fantastic option for the team.
He’s also a devastatingly effective player on that wing. He has the ability to leave players for dead with quick exchanges from his feet. A drop of the shoulder or just sheer pace, he can kill opponents in the final third and Arsenal fans don’t see that enough in this current team.
Walcott can, to a certain extent, but is rather unreliable in this department. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is perhaps the only player that will attempt to beat a player with pace, however, he’s young and requires more coaching to obtain further consistency.
