Crisis: Why Liverpool MUST Make Move For Chelsea Defender

Liverpool’s capitulation at Crystal Palace on Monday evening will have broken the hearts of both their supporters and the many neutral spectators of the Premier League that were praying for Brendan Rodger’s side to emerge as unlikely victors in the race for top spot.

All hope is not yet lost, but even the most optimistic of Liverpool fans will feel that they have let a golden opportunity slip. So where have Liverpool come unstuck?

It is most certainly not in attack with the free-scoring reds amassing an incredible 99 goals to date in their 37 league matches.

The Anfield outfit have struggled defensively in key matches and this is an area which Rodgers is looking to strengthen ahead of next season with rumours linking Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole with a move to the red half of Merseyside.

Liverpool have guaranteed Champions League football for next season and there are not many more experienced defenders in Europe than the 33-year-old. He has proved he still has the ability to compete at that level with an outstanding performance against Atletico Madrid, and this despite having hardly any first-team football under his belt prior to the encounter.

Cole would help bring the best out of exciting prospect Jon Flanagan, and the extra games that Liverpool will be contesting means that the squad will need enhancing considerably. Cole revels the big occasion and his staggering achievements demonstrate his ability in being able to perform when playing under the utmost of pressure.

How Liverpool could have done with him on Monday night.
