Dion Dublin is a man who is greatly respected at Manchester United. The defender-turned-pundit may have only played at Old Trafford for two years, but he was part of the squad that won the Premier League in the 1992/93 season. Having racked up 743 professional appearances for numerous clubs, including Aston Villa, Celtic and Norwich, it would be natural to trust his judgement. And in his opinion, Manchester United will have to spend between £50-60 million to replace the departing centre-back pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. He’s right, too, in my opinion.
Vidic is one of my favourite centre-halves to ever play at the club. He gives everything for the cause and is willing to get hurt in the process. The bravery he has displayed over the years is nothing short of incredible and there aren’t many who fall into the category.
Ferdinand was always the one who installed a coolness into the United side and allowed Vidic to make mistakes. While the Serbia international steamed in or went up for a header, Ferdinand would be behind ready to clear up and play the ball out of the back.
The partnership was something that all football fans admired, and it is a shame we will never see that again.
Replacing them will be incredibly difficult as they will not only be replacing two individuals, they will need to find a natural pairing.
I think Dublin is being kind, to be honest.
