Despite once previously declaring his love for Arsenal and stating that apart from the Gunners and Barelona, that he couldn’t imagine playing for another club – Cesc Fabreagas has passed a medical at Chelsea, according to the Daily Star. But where will he fit into the Chelsea side?
Jose Mourinho likes his teams to play a counter-attacking 4-2-3-1 formation and I would imagine Fabregas would slot into the role just behind the centre-forward.
Fabregas is one of the most creative players in the top five European leagues and it would be a shame to restrict him in the deeper role. He could play there when needed, of course, but his 13 league assists last season tells me he should be utilised offensively.
He could also act as a false number 9 – something which he has done at Barcelona and is something that Mourinho has dabbled with in the past, using Andre Schurrle.
There is a number of options, but I think that a midfield of Nemanj Matic and Ramires in the holding spots, with Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar, or perhaps Willian, will be the strongest next season.
What do you think, Chelsea fans?
