Liverpool have supposedly secured a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can who will arrive at Anfield next month. The Germany international will not be heading to the World Cup with his national side, so while he looks forward to his time in the Premier League, here are five things that Liverpool fans might not know about the 20-year-old.
1) After representing his hometown club Eintracht Frankfurt at youth level, Can made a move to Bayern Munich where he represented the B team and made four appearances for the first team.
2) Searching for first team football he switched to Bayer Leverkusen ahead of last season and played 39 games in all competitions – this included 29 Bundesliga games.
3) Can is a central midfielder but has also played at left-back and on the left of midfield. From his 29 league games and seven Champions League games, 10 were played at left-back.
4) He finished the season with 75 tackles under his belt, 46 interceptions and 42 clearances. He also scored three league goals.
5) Can has represented Germany since the U15s and has, at the time of writing, played six games for the U21 side.
