With Patrice Evra’s time at the top of football looking likely to end over the next few years, those in charge of Manchester United will be forced into signing a replacement to boss the left-back berth for years to come. This has naturally seen the Red Devils linked with Luke Shaw of Southampton, but I suggest they forget about the teen England international and move for this player.
Ricardo Rodriguez is only 21 years of age and is far superior to Shaw, in my eyes. He may not be as strong, but there is more aggression to his game, he is more effective when going forward and is more technical when on the ball.
The Switzerland international is currently on the books of Wolfsburg and last season he played 34 Bundesliga games. In that time he grabbed nine assists and scored five goals, as well as making 105 tackles and 96 clearances.
Another thing I would do is move Phil Jones into the centre of defence and keep him there as his permanent position. He cannot have benefited from being used in midfield and at right-back and I think he is the future of United’s defence.
Do you agree, United fans?
