Louis van Gaal is an experienced-yet-ambitious manager and his appointment at Manchester United was a stroke of genius by the Old Trafford board, in my opinion. The Netherlands boss will attract big players, be able to develop the young talent and ultimately guide United back to success, I am sure of it. His Premier League journey is said to be ready to start with a triple signing worth £100 million. Will it make them title contenders again?
In my opinion it would win them the title. Or at least get them close.
The three that are noted by the Daily Mail are Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund, Bastian Schweinsteiger of Bayern Munich and his team-mate Thomas Muller.
With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leaving the club, United need a strong, ball-playing centre-back and they don’t come much better than Hummels. He is also entering the peak of his career and with Phil Jones alongside him I expect the back four to be extremely difficult to break down next season.
Schweinsteiger is a player that would plug the limp midfield and would take some of the pressure off Michael Carrick. He is a real pass-master but can also score goals, and is also quite flexible in the middle of the pitch.
Muller would complete the new skewer in the Manchester United kebab and can adapt to play as a sole striker, just behind or on either wing. The Germany international scored 13 league goals last season.
These three would provide a fresh spine to the team and I think they would challenge for the title.
