Manchester United could probably do without the World Cup right now. Their squad needs a major reconstruction but their manager is on duty with Netherlands and many of those linked with a move to the club are also at the competition. It leaves them with less time to get deals in place, but one player being linked to Old Trafford is a player already working with Louis van Gaal.
Daley Blind is Holland’s first choice left-back and impressed in their 5-1 mauling of current world champions Spain on Friday.
The 24-year-old was deployed as a left wing-back in van Gaal’s fluid 3-4-1-2 formation and was one of the star performers on the pitch.
He won all of his aerial duels, made three tackles and completed 88% of his passes. Most impressively, though, he claimed two assists from the five goals.
United need someone like him to come in and take Patrice Evra’s slot. The France international has signed a new one-year deal but he was off-colour last season and in my opinion showed that he is past his best.
For Blind to come in and challenge him, and eventually take over as first choice would be a very smart move, in my opinion.
