Despite landing a blow to bitter London rivals Arsenal by signing Cesc Fabregas, it seems as though Chelsea will be moving for former Totteham favourite Luka Modric. The Real Madrid pass-master is currently at the World Cup with Croatia, but if he was to sign for the Stamford Bridge this summer then I would suggest that they would be favourites for the Premier League title next season.
Chelsea have the strongest pairing of goalkeepers in the league by some distance, with Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois. They also have one of the meanest defences – they finished the season with the best record in the league and have added young star Kurt Zouma to that.
With Luka Modric, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic in a midfield trio, I would go as far to say that no one in European football could match that for ability. Matic would be the deepest player of the three, breaking up play and giving the ball to the other two.
Modric would then be able to spray the ball about and open up gaps, with Fabregas being the most offensive of the trio, threading the key balls and creating the opportunities for the front men.
That’s not forgetting the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Mohamed Salah, Andre Schurrle and a host of other attacking players.
Imagine if Diego Costa comes in on top of that.
I know where my money is going for the title winners next season.
