We have some news for Manchester United fans now, via the Telegraph. Arsenal centre-half Thomas Vermaelen has apparently agreed a deal to join the Old Trafford side this summer, though a fee must now be agreed between the clubs.
The Belgian defender has slipped into the background at the Emirates over the last two seasons because of the fine form of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny and I think a move would get is career back on track.
In my opinion, Manchester United would be the club to provide that platform for him.
The 28-year-old was the Arsenal skipper and is used to pressure and would fit in nicely with the range of other central defenders Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.
Vermaelen is the best of both worlds – he has the composed style and passing ability of Rio Ferdinand but the rough-and-ready combative trait of Nemanja Vidic.
He’s a lot quicker than both, though, and would provide some much needed experience with the pairing leaving the club.
If they can get him on a cheap deal then I think it has the potential to be one of the signings of the season.
This video will show you a little bit more of what he’s about.
