Luis Suarez has tormented Premier League defences for a few years now, and his two goals to help knock England out of the World Cup did little to change most of the country’s perception of him as a villain.
What the Uruguayan forward’s match-winning performance against the Three Lions also did, however, was add to a host of Europe’s top clubs desire to sign him.
With rumours of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid being willing to offer big money for Liverpool’s prolific striker, it is hard to say exactly what would represent a good deal for the Anfield club if he were to leave. Suarez’s form has been exceptional over the past couple of years, and even when not playing at his best he has still often been the deciding factor in whether the Reds have won or not.
Some may argue that Liverpool could still rely on Daniel Sturridge to provide the goals for them, but with the two strikers forming such a strong partnership as their side chased the Premier League title last season it is understandable why Brendan Rodgers would be reluctant to see them separated.
And, regardless of the money any potential transfer would bring the club, just who could Liverpool sign that would be anywhere near as effective as Suarez has been?
