Mourinho Considers Striking Options – Why Chelsea May Miss Out On One Target

With Diego Costa widely believed to be about to sign for Chelsea, there is talk of another striker being lined up to accompany him in the Blues’ frontline.  According to the Express, however, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be that man.

The Gabon international enjoyed some terrific form for Borussia Dortmund last season after joining the 2013 Champions League finalists from Saint-Etienne.  After several clubs were reported to be eyeing him, however, Aubameyang’s father stated that his son would not be leaving the Bundesliga side.

With the striker having signed a five-year contract last summer it could well be the case that he remains a Dortmund player, as it would take a significant sum of money for anyone to buy him.  Only recently turning 25, however, Aubameyang is at an attractive age for any potential suitors.  He has proven himself capable of scoring goals at a top level and his best years are arguably still ahead of him.

Chelsea, though, may be forced to look elsewhere if Aubameyang’s father’s claims are true and his club do not wish to sell him.  The lure of the Premier League is a big thing for many players and there is no doubt that the Blues could attract plenty of other forwards to Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho rarely fails to do good business in the transfer market, but if Aubameyang is the man the Portuguese manager wants then he may turn out to be disappointed.
