Some players go through periods of being hot and cold, with Manchester United’s Nani arguably a perfect example. Fans of the Premier League know all about the Portuguese winger after seeing him score incredible goals and put in some match-winning performances. At the same time, however, they often find it easy to forget about him due to him not being played or his indifference on the pitch.
On his way home from Brazil after Portugal’s World Cup exit, the 27-year-old, endured a disappointing season last year at Old Trafford. Injury prevented him from featuring much in United’s disastrous campaign, with 13 appearances and a single goal in all competitions evidence of that.
Nani is something of a veteran amongst the Red Devils’ players, having been at the club since a move from Sporting Lisbon in 2007. According to the Mirror, however, his time at Old Trafford come be coming to an end.
Rumours of Nani’s departure come despite the player signing a five-year contract extension in September. Inter Milan and Juventus are said to be interested, and if he were to leave for Serie A he would do so having scored a total of 40 goals for Manchester United.
Regular game time is what Nani needs if he is to get back to his best. Whether or not that will be available to him with the Red Devils depends on the plans of new manager Louis van Gaal. No longer a youngster, the Portuguese forward must find out soon for the sake of his career.
Hopefully Nani will be playing for the team who wants him most come the end of the transfer window, something they will prove by giving him a place in their starting lineup.
