Chelsea Step In On Kroos’ Real Madrid Move – Why The Midfielder Could End Up At Stamford Bridge

Having previously been a target for Manchester United, Toni Kroos now looks set to be the subject of a tug-of-war between Real Madrid and Chelsea.  With the Blues reportedly matching last season’s Champions League winners’ offer, where the player ends up could depend on his own preference.

According to the Metro, a fee for the Bayern Munich to move to the Bernabeu had been agreed but Chelsea have now matched that in an attempt to conclude a deal of their own.  The 24-year-old’s price tag is believed to be just under £20 million.

Kroos came through the ranks at Bayern and has made 130 Bundesliga appearances for the club.  This is an impressive feat for someone so young and also shows his potential suitors that he does not lack experience.  Featuring over 200 times in all competitions for the Bavarians, he also spent time playing for the side’s reserve team in the German lower divisions prior to a season-and-a-half on loan at Bayern Leverkusen.

Both Madrid and Chelsea will be looking to push on next season, as 2013/14 ultimately saw them left behind after third-placed finishes in La Liga and the Premier League respectively.  Kroos is a man who can help them do exactly that, but who wins the race for the Germany international’s signature is set to be determined after the World Cup.
