Liverpool are showing interest in Seattle Sounders full-back DeAndre Yedlin, according to the Metro. Yedlin, 21, has been capped seven times by the USA and played at this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where a valiant United States team were knocked out by Belgium in the round of 16.
According to American tabloids, Liverpool scouts from across the Atlantic have been watching the Major League Soccer player and were fairly impressed by his ability and footballing intelligence, especially given his young age and lack of experience. The Merseyside club are now reportedly ready to give the Washington-born player a trial at Anfield before a move later in the summer transfer window.
He has been hailed as a part of the future of football in America and can also play in midfield. But exactly who is he?
DeAndre Yedlin was born in Washington in 1993 and was raised by his grandparents. In 2010 at the age of 17, he joined the Seattle Sounders’ Academy, before making his first-team debut in January 2013. Yedlin was also the first debutant to ever appear on the MLS Team of the week, where the best players in the round of fixtures from the week before are picked to form that week’s best eleven. On March 12th 2013, the full-back scored for the first time in the CONCACAF Champions League, during a crucial quarter-final. His team eventually went through 3-2 on aggregate.
United States national team boss Jurgen Klinsmann had been keeping an eye on the talented defender, and Yedlin earned his first call-up for the first team in January 2014.
In the same month, the youngster made his debut against South Korea in a friendly. He eventually made his way into the USA boss’ final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
Yedlin is on the rise to the top and is bound to make more appearances for the United States. After the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Liverpool have a lot of money to spend. With this newfound wealth, they could add this rising star to their list of purchases this summer.
