The World Cup has given us plenty of sights to behold. There have been amazing locations, great stadiums and entertaining fans, but the action that we have witnessed has been far better. This has included team performances that define comradery, with Costa Rica a perfect example of that. There have been wonderful goals of all shapes and sizes, whether it was James Rodriguez with his brilliant volley or Mario Gotze winning the World Cup with such a decisive finish. There have been upsets, surprises, enthralling encounters and the odd demolition job.
A lot of players have performed admirably, but some have also flopped. Cristiano Ronaldo, Mario Balotelli and Edinson Cavani have not exactly performed to expectations. However, that shouldn’t take anything away from the fact that they are still extremely talented players who are still hugely attractive in the transfer market.
Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with a move for Angel Di Maria in the past couple of days and look set to sign the Argentina winger. The French giants, though, have deemed Cavani surplus to requirements if they do manage to sign the Real Madrid star. The Uruguayan striker could now be set for a move to the Premier League, as his agent has stated that his client would like to play in the English top flight.
Manchester United are club with the spending power to sign someone like Cavani, but I’m not so sure they need him. Louis van Gaal loves Robin van Persie and understands that in order to get the best out of the Dutch forward he has to feel loved. If he is competing with Cavani, then you might not get the best out of either of them. Both want to be the star, but neither truly can if they play together. This is the main reason why a move for Cavani may not be beneficial for United.
