According to the Mirror, Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira has all but completed his move to Arsenal. This comes days after the Gunners signed Chile international Alexis Sanchez. With Khedira being a younger option, could this spell the end of veteran Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal career?
The Germany international would be a great addition to an ever-growing team that Arsene Wenger finally seems to be willing to spend money on. In the last 12 months the French manager has spent a lot on Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and now, seemingly, Sami Khedira.
Mikel Arteta has been a good servant to Arsenal after signing from Everton in 2011, and was an integral part of their FA Cup success last season. However, if Khedira signs, he may well be pushed out of the team so that the Germany international can take his place at the heart of midfield.
Sami Khedira has the same attributes as Arteta plus more, including an extra bit of pace. This is something that the Spaniard has always struggled with, even in his younger years at Everton and in Spain.
One thing that Khedira has never been great at is scoring goals. Arteta is not exactly prolific, but he has good shooting ability from long range and that is something that Khedira might need some work on. He does, however, have superb passing ability and that would be important to the forwards.
As mentioned, it looks very likely that Sami Khedira will be unveiled as an Arsenal player in the coming days. This would show that the Gunners really mean business, with such good signings continuing to be made. If this transfer does happen and they keep their better players fit, Arsenal could be in for a very good season that could well end with them winning more silverware.
