After gaining two full seasons’ worth of Premier League experience, Ben Davies could be set to join one of the elite sides in England’s top flight. According to the Telegraph, Tottenham and Liverpool are both interested in signing the Swansea left-back.
Just 21 years of age, Davies has progressed in a way that many other youngsters can only dream of after coming through the Swans academy. He made his debut in 2012 and since then has gone on to rack up 84 appearances for the Welsh club, includeing seven games in the Europa League last season. Swansea’s chance to play in a European competition came from their 2013 League Cup win, which Davies was also a part of.
Amidst reports that Tottenham have agreed a fee for the player, it is believed that Liverpool are to make an improved offer to the Swans as Brendan Rodgers looks to resolve the Reds’ left-back problems. A figure of £10 million is what Spurs are said to have bid for Davies, but a move to anfield and the opportunity of Champions League football could tempt the Wales international if the Merseyside club can meet Swansea’s valuation.
With Luke Shaw moving to Manchester United for around £30 million, it is clear that promising young left-backs do not come cheap. Liverpool must now counter the price Spurs are willing to pay if they wish to pursue a deal for Davies.
