Yaya Toure has been one of the best midfielders in Europe for a few years now, and recent rumours that he was unhappy at Manchester City were not the sort of thing the Premier League champions were looking for after lifting the trophy in May. Fortunately for them, though, the Guardian have reported that the 31-year-old intends to ignore transfer speculation stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Known to score the odd goal, Toure went above and beyond last campaign by finding the net 24 times in all competitions. This incredible tally ultimately played a huge role in City securing their second Premier League title on the final day of the season. The Ivorian missed just three league games in total, enabling him to consistently produce match-winning performances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Talk of Toure being unhappy that nobody at City wished him a happy birthday has since been dismissed, with the midfielder’s agent supporting his client’s claim that he is going nowhere. This would suggest that the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, who had both been linked with the player, have no chance of acquiring his services this summer.
It is hard to picture Yaya Toure in a Manchester United shirt, but stranger things have happened in football. As it stands, though, the Ivory Coast star will return from the World Cup to play in the sky blue of City, whilst the list of names linked with United continues to grow.
