English media outlet Guardian has sensationally claimed that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has reportedly asked striker Danny Welbeck to leave Old Trafford. The report claims that the move is designed to give youngster James Wilson a place in the senior squad. However there is shock and awe regarding the news as Van Gaal’s 3-5-2 system specially needs squad depth with at least four strikers readily available to flourish in the demanding setup.
Now that Robin van Persie is back from injury and is raring to go, it is believed that the Dutch manager is charge is set to feature the 31 year old beside Wayne Rooney up front. Moreover it was also thought that Welbeck would have a significant future at Old Trafford given that he is higher up the pecking order than Mexican forward Javier Hernandez, the latter whose career too looks set to be over at Manchester.
Van Gaal in his recent press conference said, “I know what I said to Danny and Danny knows exactly what I said to him.” It is also hinted that teenager James Wilson,18, who scored twice on his debut in last season’s 3-1 win over Hull City at Old Trafford will not get a chance in his senior side.
Welbeck’s next destination isn’t exactly known but it is believed that former Manchester United player Steve Bruce who manages Hull City is an admirer of the 23 year old hitman. But Welbeck might cost any potential suitors around £20m, which will surely ward off Hull’s interest. Should Welbeck leave old Trafford, United would surely pursue heir interest in Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria, who is high on the list of Van Gaal’s wishlist.
METRO however have claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham would both be willing to snap up the player and that United are willing to do business for about £15m. Welbeck had earlier scored 9 goals in 25 appearances for the Red Devils last term as he looks to get regular first team football away from the club in a bid to cement his place in the England national side for the upcoming EURO 2016.
