Arsenal’s need for a central defensive midfielder is well documented and the Gunners have reportedly handed a major boost in their pursuit of the Portuguese sensation William Carvalho. It is believed that manager Arsene Wenger is set to look forward for more transfers to bring in to the London club but any such developments will only materialize after Arsenal finish their second leg of the UEFA Champions league playoff against Besiktas.
The North London club were lucky to escape with a goalless draw from Turkey and as the tie is poised on the balance, it is believed that Wenger will take great care and give his all to make sure that his side qualifies for Europe’s top flight competition.
Reports from the English tabloid Express claim that Arsenal have been handed quite a boost for acquiring the services of Carvalho as Sporting are now believed to decrease their asking price for their prized asset. Express believs that the Porugiese club can now do business for £24m which is a significant decrease of £11m of what had originally been expected.
Sporting are believed to be interested in the services of a number of Arsenal players including Yaya Sanogo, Serge Gnabry, Francis Coquelin and Ryo Miyaichi that could result in a part-exchange deal for the 22-year-old. The deal might happen for none of the mentioned players significantly feature for the Gunners starting eleven.
Earlier Manchester United were also interested in the €45m star but now that the Red Devils have almost completed the deal for Angel Di Maria on a record deal, their interest on Carvalho will be substantially reduced. Arsenal earlier had a bid rejected by Sporting which was believed to be in the range of €25m, however Wenger isn’t deterred and is now ready for another bid.
If at all Arsenal can sign Carvalho in the remaining days of the transfer window, be rest assured Sami Khedira’s interest in Chelsea is going to go up the ladder.
