Frank Lampard, of all people, came off from the bench to rescue a point for ten man Manchester City as the reigning Premier League Champions earned a late one all draw against Chelsea in the blockbuster game on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium. Pablo Zabaleta was earlier sent off for a second yellow following a clumsy challenge on Diego Costa before Andre Schurrle took full advantage to propel Chelsea into teh lead. However it was Lampard who scored the equaliser to snatch full three points from his beloved club.
Lampard reacted quickest to James Milner’s 85th-minute cross to strike the ball past Courtois’ despairing dive, in the process securing a deserved point for City. Lampard later said, “I’d be unprofessional if I didn’t come on and do my job. It’s a tough one for me as I had 13 amazing years with Chelsea fans, so I’m mixed. I’m pleased that the team I play for got a draw, so it’s a really hard one for me to answer [how I feel]. I’m a bit lost for words. I didn’t expect to come on and score like that.”
