Manchester United had a good transfer window with marquee names like Falcao, Di Maria, and few more talented young stars joining the squad. But their squad still looks unbalanced especially in defense where they lack an experienced defender who can organize the defense from back. Manchester United management want to solve this problem in the upcoming winter transfer window by signing two experienced stars from Italian champions Juventus.
Manchester United are already being linked with Juventus pair Arturo Vidal and Angelo Ogbonna for a combined total of £52m. The 27-year old Chilean, who was a target for United in the summer, ultimately ended up staying at Juventus despite strong rumors of leaving. Reports emerged last month that Vidal had agreed personal terms with United, but a move failed to materialize. United were not the only club linked with him this past summer as Arsenal too made him a target to bolster their midfield.
Vidal underwent a knee surgery at the end of last season but made it in time for the World Cup. The former Leverkusen man suffered from a muscle injury more recently and missed 3 games in the process. He returned in Juve’s last game against Atalanta and played for 70 minutes.
Juventus center-back Angelo Ogbonna is also a target for United. Van Gaal is desperate to improve his defence that has looked very shaky so far and the Dutchman is looking at the possibility of signing Ogbonna. United were linked with German defender Mats Hummels but the rumor was ridiculed by Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp who said that it will take a massive bid for Hummels to leave Signal Iduna Park for Old Trafford. Subsequently, it made van Gaal to look else where as Marcos Rojo was signed from Sporting Lisbon. However, he is still unhappy with what he has at his disposal and is looking at signing Ogbonna for somewhere around £12m.
The double deal is an exciting prospect for the United fans as both Vidal and Ogbonna are more than capable of adapting in the Premier League. What is even more significant is that both of them have a taste of winning silverware which will come handy if they do go on to represent Manchester United in the future.
