Manchester United’s injury concerns seem to have no end. With most of his first team players out injured and Wayne Rooney banned for 3 matches after a deliberate red card, there is some further bad news for United fans. According to reports, young defender paddy McNair has been now ruled out for three weeks. the youngster who has impressed since being forced into the starting line-up now joins fellow defenders Johnny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the injury list. The 19 year old Northern Irishman who played key roles in United’s two successive wins against West Ham United and Everton has now been ruled out thanks to his hamstring injury.
McNair who has impresed was also in line for a national call up. Northern Ireland Boss Michael O’Neill had said of the youngster: “Paddy is a young player with a great future who has come on a lot, made a huge jump in a couple of weeks. It’s great to see one of our young players break through and do so well at a club like Manchester United but the main thing is that we don’t burden him with expectation at this stage. We don’t need to place unrealistic expectations on him too early in his career.”
Midfielders Ander Herrera, with a fractured rib, Jesse Lingard (knee), Michael Carrick (ankle/foot) and Ashley Young (groin/pelvis) are also on the sidelines which has certainly put the United management into serious concerns about the season. Adding to the woes, is the International break in which several players Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria, David De Gea, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo will be with their national teams. Disaster would strike if either of the players are injured.
The Red Devils however are fourth in the standings but have some tough games lined up in the coming weeks. United sit two clear of Arsenal in the injury charts, the Gunners also having serious in jury worries to 7 key players. United return to action against West Brom on Monday, Octber 20, before hosting Chelsea six days later.
