Arsenal have received a huge injury boost ahead of their clash against Hull City as Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry returned to training yesterday. Walcott, who ruptured his cruciate ligament in January, has missed a total of 38 games for Arsenal as well as the World Cup for England. The 25-year old can be deployed as a striker, which will be a relief for the Arsenal fans as their team is short in that position.
The return of 19-year old German winger Serge Gnabry also adds freshness to the squad as the Londoners have been found wanting in the wide areas this season. The duo just returned to training and are not match fit, so it’ll be unlikely that they’ll start in the next game, but with key games coming up in the League and Europe, the news will provide some relief.
Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey is close to a return as well after suffering a hamstring injury in late September. Arsenal sorely missed the 23-year old in their last game against Chelsea as they appeared toothless in midfield and attack. Ramsey will return to training in the coming week and will probably feature for the team around the last week of October.
In addition, French striker Olivier Giroud could return sooner than predicted as he steps up his rehabilitation. Manager Arsene Wenger revealed, “Giroud is recovering very well. The operation went perfectly. I believe he is ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation.”
Welbeck’s injury not as bad as feared
Danny Welbeck suffered a knock in England’s 1-0 win over Estonia on Saturday. Roy Hodgson had revealed in the post match interview, “I don’t think he’s injured. He just rolled his ankle slightly. The doctors are not worried about it.” The former Manchester United man will train with the rest of the Arsenal squad this week as the knock was a minor one. Hodgson decided not to risk the striker and subbed him as they were leading against 10-men in Estonia.
