Beware Premier League clubs. Manchester United are preparing huge but effective transfers in the upcoming winter transfer window. If reports from English tabloid MIRROR are to be believed, then the Red Devils have set sights on Ron Vlaar, Nigel De Jong and also are looking to sign long term target Kevin Strootman from Roma. United spent fortunes in the summer as manager Louis Van Gaal inherited a team full of superstars. But the Dutch legend is not ready to rest on his laurels and is looking to add more players in January.
We had reported a few days back that Ron Vlaar had asked Aston Villa, his present club to double his wages, else he would make the move to United. The Dutch World Cup star is not among the high earners at Villa Park and his long-term future remains in doubt. With The United defense leaking goals and with no quality centre back to plug holes in the defense, Vlaar looks to be a possible solution. Moreover, the Villa player is available on the cheap and would find it hard to turn down a move to Old Trafford.
United are also looking to sign AC Milan central defensive midfielder Nigel De Jong. The Red Devils had De Jong as a backup plan for Arturo Vidal and with a move for the Chilean not materializing, De Jong too would be excited at the prospect to play under Van Gaal. Moreover, he would easily fit in the central midfield position and would be effective to screen the back four with Daley Blind beside him.
Another midfielder who is also on United’s radar is Roma’s Kevin Strootman. However Rudi Garcia’s side are preparing to increase his wages so that he can turn down the Red Devils to stay in the Italian capital. Strootman who suffered a knee injury last season that kept him out of the World Cup, has now returned to training and could be back in action next month. Though Rom have said that he is not for sale and is contracted with them till 2018, United would go all the way to pursue their interest in the player.
