Manchester United on RED ALERT; prepare to sign Real Madrid star

According to reports from English tabloid DAILY EXPRESS, Real Madrid are ready to sell Brazilian left back Marcelo to Manchester United. the Los Blancos want to make space at the back of their defensive line as they want to go all out to sign Bayern Munich left wing back David Alaba. It is believed that despite signing Marcos and Luke Shaw in the summer (both primarily left backs), United are in search of another left back to help their ailing defense. A cut price move for the Brazilian makes sense as the Red Devils would be able to sign the player for a nominal fee.

Marcelo would also fit the bill perfectly. Capable of darting forward whenever needed, Marcelo plays a high tempo, exactly the kind of shift that Louis Van Gaal wants from his players. United lost almost their entire defensive back four in the summer when all of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic left the club to pursue their career elsewhere. Injuries to Phil Jones, Johnny Evans has meant that united have had to feature youngsters Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett.

Van Gaal though would like to take no chances as he aims for Champions League football next season. The Dutch Legend already has eyes on Barcelona’s Jordi Alba but as we said Marcelo looks a more feasible and realistic option. Though the report on Real moving for Alaba makes little sense, their backing of the story is absolutely hilarious.

This season Guardiola has deployed Alaba in various positions including central midfield and the left-wing. While the Austrian international has thrived and his game has been better, Express states that he is reportedly unhappy at having to share his left-back duties with young Spaniard Juan Bernat.
