Manchester United might end up with another casualty following their 2-2 draw against West Brom last night. Few eyebrows rose when Louis van Gaal decided to sub Argentine International Angel di Maria and replace him with Ashley Young, but it was later found that Di Maria was uncomfortable and was pictured with an ice pack to his groin.
With an already thin lineup, the injury to the £60million signing could leave van Gaal in some serious trouble as United welcome Chelsea next weekend. The former Real Madrid midfielder has taken the league by a storm, having scored three goals and assisted four more in the six games he has played so far.
Di Maria, although din’t manage to play until the final whistle, made his contribution splendidly for the Red Devils’ cause. His lofted ball to Marouane Fellaini led to United’s first equalizer.
Express reports that, after taking his place on the bench, Di Maria winced as he put an ice pack on his groin.
Although Manchester United drew the game falling further behind Chelsea in the table, Van Gaal insists that he can catch up with the Blues.
‘That’s possible but difficult to say because then I am arrogant. But I have done it a lot of times.
‘It is two points lost. I think we were the better team and I am very disappointed by the result. We were two times behind but I don’t think West Bromwich Albion created too many chances.’
Louis van Gaal will face his toughest match yet as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea visit Old Trafford this weekend in what could be the match of the season. The Londoners are yet to lose a game this campaign and will be on the high, but United has what it takes to stop them and a lot depends on Di Maria’s fitness.
