Khedira Transfer Saga Continues…
Arsenal and Manchester United will have competition for Sami Khedira as Manchester City have joined the race in signing the Real Madrid midfielder. Daily Mail have revealed that Khedira’s contract talks have stalled which has alerted a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool. The German’s contract expires next summer which means that Real will have to sell him in the January transfer window in order to avoid losing him for free in June. It is being reported that a fee of €10m will be enough to sign him.
Khedira’s wages were a stumbling block for Arsenal this past summer as they wanted to sign him but couldn’t afford his £200,000-per-week wages. Khedira is willing to take a pay-cut in his wages which could open the window for Arsenal, but now, competing with Manchester City will be even more harder. Not only can City outbid Arsenal, but also pay more wages, which could go against the Gunners.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed that the club will try to keep the 27-year old at the club, “If he wants to sign a contract extension then the club will renew. If not, he’ll leave at the end of the season.
“We have until June to reach agreement with him.”
Arsene Wenger could yet convince Khedira to join Arsenal as the competition for places is less at Arsenal compared to Manchester City. Wenger’s side desperately need a defensive midfielder as Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini haven’t impressed in that role. On the other hand, Manuel Pellegrini already has Fernandinho, Yaya Toure and Fernando who can be deployed in that position.
Khedira has had an injury-ravaged career at Real Madrid which has seen him make just 148 appearances since joining them in 2010. The addition of Toni Kroos will make life difficult for Khedira, so a move to the premier League will definitely be on the cards come January.
