According to reports from English Media outlet DAILY EXPRESS, Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of FC Basel defender Fabian Schar. the Swiss International recently gave an interview to Swiss magazine Blick saying that he would jump at the opportunity at playing in the Premier League and is aware of the interests from top European club. Schar also mentioned that it is his dream of playing abroad. It is also believed that Basel have set an asking price of £10m on the player.
Arsenal would be delighted with the recent developments. The Gunners’ need for defensive options are well documented. The North London side hardly have a centre back to fall back to if either of Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny is injured. Schar who plays in the heart of the defense can also draft in as a right back would easily fit into Arsenal’s starting eleven. Moreover, he has enough experience and is also a goal scoring threat; he is quite tall and can prove to be an attacking outlet from set-pieces.
Scahr recently said, “Basel are open to negotiations, but at this moment I have decided that I want to concentrate on my performances. I went through a difficult period and it wasn’t the right time to discuss my renewal. I don’t want to be worrying about that now. My dream remains to have an experience abroad.”
“I’ve always said that if the opportunity presented itself, I would take it, obviously in agreement with Basel. I need a team with important prospects. I’d like the Bundesliga, Premier League or top Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus. I couldn’t say no. I want to hear all my options and consider them carefully. There was some contact in the summer, but nothing serious.”
So will arsenal sign the player in the upcoming winter transfer window? Only time will provide the apt answer
