Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has revealed that he doesn’t regret selling Danny Welbeck to direct rivals Arsenal as the 23-year old wasn’t featuring in the main team for United. Welbeck has got a good run of games at Arsenal since joining them in August which has helped him massively. His good form for Arsenal has resulted in a starting place for the English national team. Van Gaal also clearly revealed that Manchester United are coming to Emirates to win and they also want to beat their former man Welbeck along with it.
Van Gaal said, “He could have [continued] playing for Manchester United. But we decided that he could go and he has benefitted from it. I think that any player who is playing regularly in a team will always develop. He is now benefitting from playing every week. That was a question mark with Manchester United.”
The Dutchman was impressed by Welbeck’s form but went on to add that he will be a rival on the pitch alongside Arsenal and old friendships will be forgotten, “It’s good to see he’s doing what I thought he would [at Arsenal]. I cannot judge him so well because I haven’t seen him play but now I shall see him I can judge him.
“But I don’t think it is so important how I judge him because he is now playing for Arsenal. He’s not a Manchester United player anymore so now we have to beat him also. But he’s not alone, we have to beat Arsenal.”
The former Manchester United man has scored just two goals in his ten Premier League appearances, but it’s the Champions League where he has been really impressive. In four appearances, Welbeck has scored three goals and has helped his side to second place in the group.
He’ll have a definite point to prove against his old club who sold him and replaced him with Radamel Falcao. So far the move has gone against United as the Colombian hasn’t lived up to his billing and Welbeck has impressed at Arsenal. The two teams face of tomorrow at the Emirates.
