Teams in the Premier League have struggled due to the lack of options they have in some positions on the pitch and have paid the price on more than a number of occasions, in terms of their performances, or in terms of the astronomical amounts that they have been forced to splurge to acquire players who end up as shadows of their previous selves, not playing to their potential. Manchester United utilized the loan system to acquire Radamel Falcao at a staggering cost of around £6m plus his salary on top of that, who has struggled to adapt to life at United, picking up injuries while scoring a solitary goal in his three months at United. If United had to pay the fee of £46m that AS Monaco demanded upfront, Falcao would have been a colossal waste of money. Top teams will exercise caution before sanctioning large amounts to be spent on players, in January. Three players who could move on loan to a Premier League club and gain much-needed exposure to one of the biggest competitions are:
1. Aymeric Laporte:
He plays for Athletic Bilbao, but his performances have not been able to attract the attention of the French selectors, as he has fallen behind in the race to get ahead amongst a crop of young, talented French defenders. His compatriots who have moved to the Premier League in recent times have not been able to fulfill their potential, and he would not want to make a permanent move and regret his decision.
Clubs are in need of a defender, and his long passing, free kick, intercepting and heading skills would be necessary in a competition such as the Premier League, where clubs are struggling owing to the lack of depth in their set of defenders, leading to fatigue in the case of the first-choice defenders. The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United would be a perfect destination for Laporte. If not as a permanent move, but on a loandeal, which would be ideal for both the parties.
