On-loan Manchester United Luis Nani has regained his form since joining his former club Sporting Lisbon on a temporary basis and is being tipped to return to Old Trafford in January. However, Sporting’s manager Marco Silva revealed after the game against Maribor a few days ago that he is happy at the club, “I am satisfied with the performance of the players. Nani did well, did a great goal and we can see he is very happy to represent Sporting.” So, it looks like Nani won’t be returning to Old Trafford this January.
The 28-year old Portuguese Speedster was supposed to fill the huge boots of Cristiano Ronaldo after he left for Real Madrid in 2009, but never really showed any sort of consistency. Last season under former manager David Moyes was probably his worst at the club which made Louis Van Gaal loan him out to Sporting in order to get back the confidence that he was lacking. He appeared 13 times in the whole of last season and scored just one goal for his side.
This season, Nani has once again looked like the player that he was when Sir Alex Ferguson signed him as he has played with a lot of flair and passion on the pitch. The Portuguese international has appeared in 15 games so far and has scored six goals in those games and assisted a further five. With Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia disappointing yet again, he could still have a future at the club after some impressive performance thus far. The Champions league is where Nani has glittered the most as he has helped his side to second place in group G, ahead of the more fancied Schalke. He has scored four goals in five Champions League appearances.
The loan move lasts until June of next year but despite that there were some rumors that he could return in January. However, Sporting have gone on to rule out such a possibility.
