Manchester United and Arsenal target Marco Reus is set to join Spanish side Real Madrid according to reports from the Express. This will be a massive transfer blow for both Manchester United and Arsenal as both the sides are looking to add more world class players to their squads.
The move is yet to be confirmed by the club sources but if it will happen then the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea will be the ultimate losers. The release clause on Reus’ contract is something that the Premier League giants can easily afford, but it remains to be seen if Reus will prefer a move to Spain rather than England.
Dortmund have struggled this season and find themselves in the bottom; the first time in their history at the winter break. It’s looking more and more likely that they will not qualify for the UEFA Champions League, which could mean that there will be a mass exodus from the club come next summer. They have already lost some big names in the last few years as the likes of Mario Goetze, Robert Lewandowski and Shinji Kagawa left the club (although Kagawa returned).
Reus is currently nursing an ankle injury that he suffered in November. The injury ruled him out for the entirety of 2014 and he could return in time for Dortmund’s next game which isn’t until late January against Leverkusen.
Prior to his injury, Reus was in good form and was perhaps his side’s most important player as new summer signings Adrian Ramos and Ciro Immobile had a bad start at the club. He had scored six goals in 11 appearances in all competitions for his side.
The former Monchengladbach man had rejected a contract extension a few months back which was an indication that he wants to move. United could still have a chance of signing the winger as the competition for places in stiff at Real Madrid. Another factor which could play an important role in that the Premier League is much more competitive than the La Liga. United however will have to act fast if they want to sign Reus.
