Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he would love to play alongside Lionel Messi once again, but this time at Chelsea!
The duo were together in their younger days when they were part of the La Masia academy and for three years starting from 2011 when Fabregas returned to the place where it all began for him after leaving Arsenal. However, a disappointing 2013 season with the Blaugrana made Fabregas change clubs once again as he jumped the ship to Chelsea.
The 27-year old told Radio Marca, “(Messi joining Chelsea?) I wish! Why not? I’d love that to happen. I’d be all for it.
“As a FC Barcelona man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire there for all that he has given the club. He is a legend that has changed FC Barcelona’s history. But, as his team-mate and friend, without doubt I’d love to have Messi by my side at Chelsea. (Is this a transfer hint?)
“This season Barca are Messi and 10 others. Messi has saved his team on many occasions.”
Messi finished the first half of the La Liga with a brace against Cordoba that took his tally for the season to 23 goals in 22 games in all competitions. In those 23 goals, 15 have come in the league and eight in the UEFA Champions League. The four-time Ballon d’Or winner is his side’s leading goal scorer this season despite the presence of Neymar and Luis Suarez which only highlights the fact that Barcelona are definitely reliant on him.
If Messi does decide to leave in the near future, then you would think that Chelsea or Manchester City will be the only ones in the Premier League who could afford him. However, it’s unlikely that he will move as he has been at the club for a long time and is already considered a legend there. He has scored an incredible 377 goals in 447 appearances for the club and at 27, we could possibly be looking at a few more to come in the future.
