In the aftermath of his side’s goalless draw against Tottenham yesterday, Van Gaal was asked about any transfer dealings happening in January. The Dutchman replied irritably, “No. I discuss that with my CEO. I don’t tell you, sorry.”

Van Gaal’s side were held by Tottenham who put in a good second half display after being dominated by the red devils in the first 45 minutes. Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris made some excellent saves to deny Radamel Falcao and Ashley Young in the fist half and kept the scoreline level.

The United boss was disappointed that his side couldn’t convert the chances and said, “(It was an) ugly match but in the first half we played very well, but if you can’t score goals you cannot win.

“Yes, we gave three chances away but we could have scored as well; Mata free from 16 metres, Van Persie could score, also Falcao.

“But the first half was a fantastic half of ours. And you have to finish the attacks…we were not so effective today.”

He had already revealed in the press conference prior to the match that he wasn’t happy with the recovery period given to the players in the Premier League as they play as many as four games in the span of 10 days during the Christmas period and he once again stressed on it, “I’ve said already before the matches that it’s the culture of England. I think the human body cannot recover in 48 hours so good and you could see in the second half that it was a struggle.

United’s next opponents are Stoke City who have been in good form after winning two games in a row. The two clubs will face off on Thursday.
