Liverpool have been with various superstars since the start of the season, based on their accomplishments and performances from last season. One such man the Reds were chasing from a long time was Swiss sensation Xherdan Shaqiri. The 23 year old was heavily linked with a move to Anfield and manager Brendan Rodgers was quite keen on adding this talented winger to his squad and challenge for more this season. Lack of first team action had upset the Swiss international and a move away from the Allianz Arena was quite eminent.
Despite the fact that Liverpool were pushing to sign the star, Bayern Munich did not agree to finalizing his move to the Premier League side. Rather he is now on a 6 month loan deal to Italian giants Inter Milan who had already completed a move for Arsenal’s unused German World Cup winner Lukas Podolski at the start of January. The Reds were desperate to sign the winger after captain Steven Gerrard confirmed an Anfield exit at the end of the season and wanted to strengthen their squad. After the deal fell out with Munich, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers decided to go ahead and sign England international Adam Lallana.
In an interview, when asked about the speculations about his move to Anfied Shaqiri mentioned, “In the end I had a lot of options, very lucrative offers. And I was on the phone with very many coaches who talked to me about their ideas. But just I felt that Inter did most to get me. My gut feeling was with Inter. I had wanted to join Liverpool over the summer, but Bayern would not agree to it. That was not easy for me, but I had to accept it. That’s why I am glad that it has worked out with this move in the winter.”
