Manchester United are on the verge of letting one of their star mid-fielders leave the club within the next ten days. Reports suggest that manager Van Gaal is now ready to let Scottish midfielder Darren Fletcher make the move away from Old Trafford. The 30 year old has not received much game time this season after United stocked up their midfield with the likes of Herrera and Blind to add to the depleted United squad at the start of the season. Fletcher, who has been a part of United’s main team since 2003 has made a total of 222 appearances and has scored a tally of 18 goals, for the Red Devils.
Since the moment this news has come out, Premier League side West Ham have taken charge and now find themselves in the the lead to sign United’s longest-serving player on loan ahead of clubs like West Brom and Valencia, who have been quite keen too.
Fletcher has just six months left on his contract which will expire at the end of the season and these reports suggest the Red Devils have no plans of an extension. As United hope to add more quality to their squad and new arrivals expected in the summer, Fletcher could be allowed to leave Manchester on a free transfer or maybe on a nominal fee, before deadline day. In an interview when asked about the Scott’s future,
Van Gaal said: “He is still a Manchester United player-that is the update. Darren Fletcher is the only player who has already won the FA Cup in my squad. He is also one of my three captains. That is what I can tell you. Further when asked if he would stay or leave, the United boss admitted: “I’m not sure. It is the transfer month.”
Fletcher has started just four times this season and has been overlooked as United have talent in the form of Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, who have been preferred instead.
