Chelsea Injury Update: Former La Liga Trio May Miss The Big Game Against Manchester City

Chelsea Injury Update

There might be some bad news for Chelsea and its fans, ahead of their all important Permier League tie against Manchester City, to be played on Saturday. During their 1-0 Capital One Cup semi-final victory over Liverpool, which was a hard fought extra-time win, Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas limped off after clattering into John Terry, in the early moments of the second half. The clash left such an impact on Fabregas, that the 27 year old Spaniard may miss out on this crucial game, which could play a major role in determining the fate of the Premier League title, this season.

To add to this, the Blues may also have to manage without their Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis, who was also forced off late in the second-half due to an injury as well. The pair could be missing for Saturday’s visit of City to Stamford Bridge, as the Manchester side look to close the five point gap, at the top of the table. When asked about the duo and more details on their injuries, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said,

“Filipe [Luis] was a calf and Fabregas was a hamstring. Fabregas told me he wasn’t yet injured [immediately after the impact with Terry] but that he would be in a few moments.”

Chelsea will be looking to extend their lead to eight with victory over Manuel Pellegrini’s men and sit comfortably on top of the Premier League table. City, on the other hand would want a win and reduce the deficit to two points, which would make the title race a bit more open.

Also, Spanish striker Diego Costa may be facing a potential three match ban for violent conduct in Tuesday’s victory over Liverpool, which might rule him out of the fixture as well. The Spaniard will appeal the charge and FA will review the evidence and will make a final decision on Friday.
