Manchester United are set to offer their young superstar striker James Wilson a new four-year contract, as reports suggest. The new deal is expected to increase his pay by a big margin and keep him at Old Trafford on a long term deal. The nineteen year old Wilson, is currently being paid a salary of £5,000-a-week, but once he signs the new deal by the summer, that salary will jump to £20k, as suggested by sources.
United are going great in the Premier League at the moment and are placed third on the points table, above fourth place Southampton. This new deal will be a reward for the rapid progress and improvement that the youngster has shown over the recent months and the club looks at Wilson as one of the top future prospects. Wilson has not only impressed United’s boss Louis van Gaal, but also assistant manager Ryan Giggs and is highly rated at the club by everyone, who has seen him play this season. Giggs was in charge of the club last season and gave Wilson his debut last year, after the sacking of the manager at that time, David Moyes. The young striker responded positively to this trust by Giggs and put in a spectacular performance, netting twice in his first game against Hull. He was also up to the mark in the club’s recent win at Queens Park Rangers, which sealed all three points for United. The England Under-20 international also single handedly dominated rivals City as he scored four goals in United’s 4-1 win against them in the Manchester Senior Cup final at the start of the season. His performance in the match, which was contested by the clubs’ under-21 sides was so mesmerizing that the Dutchman could not ignore and first team opportunities have been granted to him this season, to show his talent at the highest level. With rumours of Robin van Persie’s departure in the market, it would seem that Wilson’s future at the club, looks quite bright at the moment.
