According to talksport.com, 20 time Premier League winners Manchester United are all set to splash in £35 million for Real Madrid’s French International Raphael Varane. There were heavy rumours on the deadline day of winter transfer window which linked the French youngster to Manchester United. But manager Louis Van Gaal denied all such rumours as he decided against the move for a defender in the middle of a season.
Latest reports suggest that, Manchester United are in pole position to sign Varane in the summer transfer window and are likely to face some stiff competition from fellow premier league rivals Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of Varane.
It was under Mourinho when Varane was developed into a world class defender at Real Madrid at a very young of 19. Mourinho signed Varane from Lens during his tenure at Real Madrid and the youngster impressed everyone with his potential. Under Mourinho, Varane was a vital part of the playing XI as he got starts regularly. But when Ancelotti took over from Mourinho, he preferred Portuguese defender Pepe ahead of Varane to start with Ramos in the backline.
Now, with Varane not guaranteed a place in the playing XI, there are chances that he might leave the club and come to England where the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are waiting to grab him.
Chelsea see him as a potential replacement for John Terry while United have been plagued by defensive this season and Van Gaal would like to have Varane leading his defence next season.
